Triathlon Kebangsaan Ke-3

The Playa, Mr Butterfly and I went to the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports to register for the Brunei Triathlon next month and it was free. This is probably the only triathlon event organise in the world with grand cash prizes with no registration fee at all. We are so lucky. Let’s just hope the event will be well organised.

The Playas decided to register for the team relay event and named their team the “Chippendales”. ZM did mention that they might wear the Chippendales’ costume on race day. So please be aware.

There will be cash prizes for all categories from 1st prize being $2,500 and 10th place $100. I really hope I can get a piece of the prize money to help finance my Singapore Ironman trip next month. Amin.

Treadmill Treats

Found this article on the “Runner’s World” site regarding workouts (running) you can do on the treadmill.

Honestly speaking, I’m not really a fan of the treadmill, but when I’m travelling and do not have much time, treadmill would be my first choice at the gym.

With the current weather being so unpredictable and raining most of the time, running on the treadmill would be a good option, whether you’ve got it at home or at your local gym.

There are some good pointers in the article on how to maximise your runs on the treadmill. You can basically do most of your workouts on it such as hills, speed and fartlek sessions.

So the next time it rains, just run on the treadmill at home or drop by your local gym if you’re really itching to run, and avoid getting sick.

Too late for me now. Urgh…… :(

First Tri Ride..

My innocent "baby"

Before the ride

Was initially planning to join Bahar and his anakpanyu team on their long ride last Sunday, but since the next Brunei Triathlon is just around the corner and since I have yet to try out my new “baby”, I decided to skip the long ride and get myself familiar with her.

Rounded up a few tri mates and decided to go for a 40k ride on the highway. I’ve never ridden on a tri bike before, so it felt different, especially on the aero position. I was really expecting that riding this bike would make me go faster, but somehow, it felt the same as on my road bike.

Macam nada different. Entah lah, belum biasa kali, baru first time. I hope this “baby” of mine will cut a few minutes off my bike time for my next race.

The group ride started off smoothly with my friend (Faizal) pulling us faster and faster. However, it was short-lived due to a crash at about 10k through.

The rider in the middle hit the rear wheel of the front rider and sent him crashing on the tarmac. It looks like a scene from a movie, it was just terrifying. He did a 180 turn and skidded on the road. He got cuts and bruises on his thigh and shoulder.

I was lucky that I kept my distance from him and managed to swerve over him.

After making sure he was ok, we just cycled back to our cars and checked the damages. No major damages, just cuts, bruises and scratches to his bike.

Will need to go for another familiarisation ride this week.

Note: Never draft on a tri bike. Very Dangerous.

Brunei No. 19 in GROE 2008/2009

With the last race of the Greatest Race on Earth 2008/2009 series held last Sunday in Hong Kong, Brunei Darussalam is placed 19th out of 23 countries in the Men’s Nations Challenge.

Congratulation to all the runners who competed. Next time laju-laju sikit lagi ah.

The last race in Hong Kong was run by my running sifu Sefli Ahar, he ran it in 3 hrs 4 mins. Not as good as we expected, as he clocked a sub 2:40 in Kota Kinabalu last year. He said the weather was cold and very windy, and he threw-up a couple of times during the race. Not used to the weather I guess.

I hope they’ll do a proper selection race (full marathon) this year and not the half marathon they usually do, it’s a totally different ball game.
Mana tau nasib baik tahun ani… :)

Shopping for a New Baby

I have been wanting to get myself a tri bike since last year, but have not had the chance to go look for one, especially with the limited brands they carry in Brunei.

Since I was in Singapore last week for work, added this item to my “must-get-list” in Singapore and went out searching for the right baby.

New Year, New Start, New Toy

It’s a bit late to wish everyone a new year, but as the saying goes, “Better Late Than Never”. So….

“Selamat Tahun Baru Hijrah 1430”
“Happy New Year 2009”
“Gong Xi Fa Chai”

This year’s goals and targets (sports):
1. Compete in more Triathlon races
2. Become an Ironman (at least a half Ironman)

To help in achieving these, got myself a new ‘toy’………
